First Light Shelter
First Light Shelter came to Telegraph seeking a renewed visual identity that could bridge the gap between their powerful work and mission and public perception. Despite decades of impact within Birmingham, the organization struggled with awareness and external connection — many still asked, “Who is First Light?”.
The team expressed a desire for a brand that felt human, hopeful, and inclusive—something that captured “the light” without leaning too heavily into religious or negative, stereotypical imagery around homelessness. After all, the only thing that could be separating you from a shelter is a circumstance.
In response, I developed a modern visual identity built around warmth, connection, and dignity. The refreshed logo, color palette, and typography were designed to evoke light and renewal while maintaining a grounded, compassionate tone. The result is a brand that reflects the heart of First Light’s mission—offering hope, humanity, and belonging to every person who walks through their doors.
